Strati del Tempo 'Layers of time" technique inspred by the ancient buidlings in Lucca Italy
Inthis full-length tutorial, Ronald Layman will show you step by step how to recreate the "Layers of Time" finish, inspired by the ancient buildings of my time in Lucca, Italy. During my travels to this historic city, I was captivated by the beauty of its weathered walls, adorned with layers of lime plaster and paint that have naturally aged over centuries.
The "Layers of Time" technique mimics the authentic appearance of these centuries-old surfaces. By applying multiple layers of lime paint and Marmorino plaster, using a stencil to create intricate patterns, and then gently sanding the surface to reveal the underlying layers, you can achieve a timeworn effect that exudes history and charm. The final touch is a polishing wax, which imparts a warm, inviting glow reminiscent of Lucca's sunlit walls.
Join Ronald Laymen as he guides you through each stage of this process, from preparation to the finishing touches, ensuring a professional and beautiful result. Bring a piece of Lucca's enduring elegance and heritage into your space with this timeless and evocative finish.

I have a small wall that has heavy texture from a plaster that’s at least been there 40 years. It’s a pretty neat wall. I’ve positioned it and the surrounding walls a true yellow. Was thinking this technique of faux painting would look cool. My question is do you think it will be over kill and would it even work on a very heavy, kinda sloppy plated wall? Any info you can give would be great! Maybe there is another technique that’s better for an already textured wall. Thank you so much! Love your work!!

Not sure if this will be seen because the video is a few years old but here's my question. These videos were just what I was looking for. Thank you. I'm doing a small bedroom wall using this technique in a very pale pinky beige. Is there something I can put on the wall to make removal easier. If I get tired of this in a few years I want to be able to remove it without all kinds of sanding. I was thinking about wallpaper first and then primer/base coat? Any suggestions?

I have an old copper roof in three different areas of our house. Unfortunately, in 2 of the areas, the previous owners were not at all careful when adding tar to regular shingles above this or when painting the house so, there are many messy spots. I want to bring back the original surface or considering painting these copper roofs with copper looking paint and adding a patina to that. What do you recommend??

Hi Ron thank you for the updated video, so the savon wax while troweling wont pile up in the texture of the plaster? I did a wall and troweled first and the wax would gather in the low spots so I toweled it off to get it out the next wall i applied with a sponge thats when it milked out or the silver got into the wax and clouded, still looked really good just not as good if left alone but so the savon wax wont gather up in the low spots?
